these drawings are really nice. What spurred the decision to render these scenes out of life? Your older work was such a complex cosmology... now everything is paired down in something like impressionism. It is an interesting metaphor... not knocking it... I love the new stuff... just wondering how that change happened...
wod, i began to feel that the old work strayed to far from our world...the stories to allegorical...the creatures too foreign. im trying, in these, to move further out onto the razors edge...to the left: fable, allegory, monsters, aliens, outerspace, the unknown---> to the right: the observed world, the recognizeable (but maybe not known), events we are familiar with but have maybe never experienced, memory, childhood.
i just think that the introduction of the 'real' will complexify the invented. there is much that is invented or enhanced or altered in these.
the beauty of impressionism is the libertys they took in painting what they saw. they coupled thought, observation and intention. i am very interested in doing that...today, with maybe a bit more invention.
